First Vice President/Head of Credit for Korea, Seoul                                                     1995-1999

Managed a team of analysts covering a $1.5 billion global portfolio of financial institutions and corporations across a wide range of industries.

 

  • Avoided credit losses during Korea crisis, exiting or avoiding all of the bankrupt names prior to the crisis – only foreign branch in Seoul with a zero loss record.
  • Successfully exited in 1998 SK Global (“Korea’s Enron”), which had been a major bank relationship, due to mistrust of management and their financials.
  • Helped rebuild customer relationships by being among the first banks to restart lending to Korean corporations after a dramatic downsizing of the portfolio during the crisis.

 

Emerging Market Debt Trading & Mexico Country Credit Officer, New York           1994-1995

  • Revised existing as well as created new credit counter-party risk policies and operational procedures for the debt trading unit resulting in no credit losses while most other market participants with the same customer base had losses in the tens of millions of dollars.
  • Exited certain banks and corporations before the onset of the peso crisis thus avoiding non-performing assets in Mexico.

  • Structured and marketed cross-border loans with Mexico resulting in strong fee income with zero underwriting risk.
  • Created legal and operational framework for an emerging market fund.
